What is Edexcel BTEC Level 2 First Award in Health and Social Care?
The BTEC First Award in Health and Social Care covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in this vocational sector and gives learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
Students can progress to vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Health and Social Care.
What is the course structure?
The course is made up of four units, two core units Human Lifespan Development and Health and Social Care Values, followed by two further units Social Influences on Health and Wellbeing and The Impact of Nutrition on Health and Wellbeing. Unit one is externally assessed with an examination and the three further units are internally assessed on completion of coursework.
What will I study?
Human Lifespan Development. Human growth and development occurs in stages. A person’s stage of growth affects their health, care and support needs. This unit covers the patterns of human growth and development in each life stage, as well as the major life events that can affect a person’s personal development.
Health and Social Care Values - This unit covers the importance of care values in health and social care practice and ways of applying values to empower individuals who use the service.
Social Influences on Health and Wellbeing - This unit focuses on different types of social relationships, as well as a range of broader social factors that influence human development, health and wellbeing.
The Impact of Nutrition on Health and Wellbeing - This unit looks at the way a balanced diet provides the basis for good health and development and introduces the dietary needs of people who use care services.
