Home Economics (Food, Nutrition and Health) AS/A2 at Stanborough School

Course description

This course is designed for students who have enjoyed and achieved well at GCSE and either wish to go into the food industry as a profession, are interested in developing food products or have a keen interest in working with Food as a material.
The course is broken down into key units that are followed through at both AS and A2 level. These units are:
- Society and Health
- Resource Management
- Home Economics Investigative Study
- Nutrition and Food Production

You will also study a range of topics such as Food provision, selection and purchase of food and household goods, food preparation and cooking equipment, food safety and hygiene, family and society, nutrition and developments In the food industry. Assessment at AS is through two external exams each 50% of the total AS GCE. A2 assessment is based on an external exam and an Investigative Study. All students should be prepared and equipped for a significant amount of practical work throughout the course. This course can lead to a wide range of possible career routes such as Food Technologist, Nutritionist, Home Economist, Food journalist, Product development, and teaching.

Entry requirements

Grade A*-C in Food Technology or Catering if taken at GCSE. If not taken at GCSE, then a successful interview.APS: 40 or above
