Animal Care Diploma Level 2 at Moulton College
This course aims to provide a basic understanding of the practical and theoretical elements of animal health, welfare and care. Students will work with a wide range of species in order to gain and develop extensive husbandry skills and build upon associated knowledge. Some modules included within the course are Introduction to Breeds and Grooming, Maintain Animal Health and Welfare and Understand the Basic Principles of Animal Biology. An integral part of the course is the completion of various additional qualifications which are designed to enhance future career opportunities.
Professional and vocational qualifications lead to accreditation, be it from an examining body, such as City & Guilds or Edexcel, or professional recognition, such as from Construction Skills or Lantra. The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) recognises vocational achievement through the attainment of credits for units of study and for whole qualifications. The smallest qualification is the Award, then the Certificate, and the largest is the Diploma, although there are other intermediate qualifications also available. The duration of study will typically reflect the size of the qualification.
Four GCSE grades at D-E or a Level 1 Diploma in a related subject
Vocational and professional qualifications are taught through college based theory and practical lessons with further learning and understanding developed via directed self-study. Assessment consists of internally set coursework and assignments, although some professional and vocational qualifications may require the achievement of externally set assessments.
After successful completion of the course students can expect to pursue one of the following career opportunities:
- Pet Store Assistant
- Kennel / Cattery Assistant
- Grooming Assistant
- Farm Worker
- Animal Charity Worker
- Stable Worker
- Animal Care Assistant
Students generally progress onto a higher level of Animal Welfare course, move into a job with training (such as an apprenticeship) or move into full time employment.
