French GCSE at Lincoln Castle Academy

Course description

Language is how we all communicate. If you have speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in a foreign language, the world is more open to you for business and travel. We study topics which would help you in day to day conversations and transactions. Studying a foreign language at GCSE will broaden your horizons, make you aware of cultural differences, media issues and give you the ability to communicate through both speaking and writing. A language will complement most subjects at varying levels but goes particularly well with English, Media, Business, Psychology, Sociology and History. These courses can complement any other Level 2 programme of study.

Entry requirements

It is preferable for you to have studied the language at KS3. You must be prepared for hard work and show good time management skills.

Future opportunities

A qualification in a foreign language combined with other skills opens up a range of careers both here and abroad. These include business, journalism, tourism, air cabin crew and teaching. Prospectus for some college and University courses state that a GCSE in a language is preferable as some courses include a year abroad.
