Performing Arts Level 3 Btec at Gloucester Academy
This pathway specifically looks at the skills needed to progress and develop as a performer. It is a very practical course combining theory and practice aimed at developing knowledge and skills across a broad area of performance including voice and movement.
Students need to be open-minded and willing to explore creatively to broaden their horizons. The course challenges students to develop their core performance skills and disciplines (i.e. focus, concentration, character portrayal, pacing, physical and vocal control) whilst exploring the application of these skills n a range of creative contexts. The course emphasises the importance of teamwork and an ability to fulfill an effective role in a group, both on and off stage.
This course offers a wide range of units to develop skills in multiple performance disciplines. Over the duration of a year a minimum of three units are delivered. These include: Principles of Acting, Performing to an Audience, Developing Movement Skills, Physical Theatre and Musical Theatre.
Minimum GCSE Drama or related subject at grade B or above.
You may be required to participate in pre-course activities such as an interview and/or practical workshops.
You may also be required to submit a portfolio of work.
Assessment is continuous, usually through integrated assignments covering a range of skills and different units. The majority of work is practical with written back up. A number of research projects are set often resulting in verbal presentations or essays. Public performances take place throughout each year.
Progression routes after completing the Level 3 Performing Arts course include Drama School, university and employment. There are many career routes once the Level 3 Performing Arts course has been completed such as Actor, Entertainer, Presenter, Director, and Back Stage Crew.
