Subsidiary Diploma/Certificate in Music Performance (Level 3) at Palmer's College

Course description

Music (Performance) is suited to musicians and singers wishing to further their instrumental techniques within a solo and ensemble setting. We cater for musicians with a classical or popular background.

Course content

Year 1 - units include:
• Classical music in practice or popular music in practice
• Music performance techniques
• Working and developing as a musical ensemble

Year 2 - units include a combination of three of the following:
• Improvising music
• Music in the community
• Music performance session styles
• Music project

Entry requirements

Minimum of 4 Cs at GCSE or a full Level 2 Diploma in Music. GCSE Music (graded examinations on an instrument are desirable but not essential).

Future opportunities

The Subsidiary Diploma combines well with other A-level programmes. The qualification could lead to session musician work, community workshop leadership, classroom and instrument teaching and higher education courses in music (although additional instrumental/music theory qualification may be needed).

You will have the opportunity to release music completed during the course via the College’s own record label, Distinction Records.
