Spanish A Level at Worcester Sixth Form College

Course description

Spanish, the first language of 22 nations and 300 million people, is developing rapidly as a language of increasing importance here in Britain, not only because of the many links through tourism but also because of the development of Spain as an important European Union trading nation and improved relations with Spanish-speaking countries in South America.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English at grade B or above
  • Desirable: GCSE English at grade B or above

Willingness to talk freely to the target language. Desire to spend time in a country where target language is spoken.

Assessment

The A level will be assessed by external exams in reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. The course includes options in Cultural Studies.

Financial information

Spanish exchanges every year. Not compulsory but students should take part (£180-£280 for 8-11 days)

Future opportunities

Many students go onto study a degree in which Spanish is a major or minor component. Combinations such as Law, Business Studies or History are excellant both at A level and university. Fluency in the language will increase the opportunities of working in one of the Spanish-speaking countries.

Exchanges
Students have the opportunity to participate in an exchange with Santiago in Spain in order to improve their fluency and listening skills. Some of the exchange activities directly aim to support the syllabus.
