Course description

Work Skills is a flexible suite of BTEC qualifications suitable for learners of all ages and at all stages of their working lives. Our vision is to equip young people with the skills to gain and retain a job in challenging times.

Now, more than ever, individuals wishing to progress in the workplace, in education and in training, need demonstrably flexible and wide-ranging skills. Work Skills delivers exactly that.

It isessentialthat you complete a period of work experience to gain this qualification.However, don't panic your two week work experience session at the end of year 10 will cover this requirement.

Course content

Work Skills builds on the ABC of employability - Attitude, Behaviour and Communication - to develop the skills that employers are looking for and to give learners an edge in a competitive climate. This qualification is taught in bite size chunks and you will study individual units of work rather than one subject over the two years. Some of the units you may study are:

  • Managing your money
  • Searching for a job
  • Applying for a job
  • Interview skills
  • Working in a team
  • Building a working relationship with colleagues
  • Preparing for a work placement
  • Solving work related problems

Assessment

This qualification is taught in bite size chunks and you will study individual units of work rather than one subject over the two years.There is no exam required with this qualification. You will create a portfolio of evidence which will be marked by your teacher and then assessed by an outside verifier.
