Course description

This is a practical introductory course into a wide range of skills to support your entry to the world of work, this course is designed for students interested in a career in business, office related roles, ICT, e-commerce, retail, customer service or business and travel.

Course content

Whilst studying Business and Employability Level 1 you will cover a range of topics that include; working in business and administration, effective communication in the workplace, creating business documents, using ICT in the workplace, dealing with queries and requests, making and receiving calls, welcoming visitors and working with colleagues. In addition, career progression, earching and applying for a job, preparing for an interview, applying for a job, positive attitudes and behaviours at work and using numeracy skills in the workplace.

Entry requirements

Entry is subject to interview.


By a portfolio of written assignments, practical role plays and observations, work experience and internal/external assessments. You will receive both verbal and written feedback from your tutors. Formal external exams will be taken for English and Maths GCSE as necessary.

Extended Certificate in Business & Retail Level 2, Extended Certificate in Business and E-Office Skills Level 2, Extended Certificate in Business & Travel Level 2, BTEC in Uniformed Public Service Level 2, Apprenticeships in Business & Administration, Retail or Customer Service.

      Canterbury College Sheppey Campus is located within easy walking distance from the train and bus stations. It can be found opposite Tesco and McDonalds. The salon entrance is opposite The Foyer.
