Business Studies AS Level at South Wirral High School

Course description

You may have a clear idea of what you want to do when you have completed your formal education, or you may still be considering your future. When you eventually begin your chosen career, one thing is certain - you will be working for a business organisation.

Course content

A qualification in Business Studies will help you to understand how they attempt to resolve those difficulties. This course covers a variety of business topics including Marketing and Finance, People and Operations Management, Objectives and Strategy, adn the external constraints that influence all business decisions.

During the first year AS students will complete two examination papers, and two further papers during the second year (A2). The course is open to students who have achieved a good grade in English and Mathematics.

Paper 1 - Planning and financing a business.
This unit investigates starting up a new business

Paper 2 - Managing a business
This unit investigates small-medium established businesses

Paper 3 - Strategies for success
This unit looks at mature, growing businesses.

Paper 4 - The business environment and managing change.
This synoptic unit investigates large, nulti-national businesses and contains a research task.

There is an option to gain an A in BTEC as part of this course in addition to your A-Level. It is NOT essential to have studied Business Studies at Key Stage 4.The essentials for success in Business Studies are a desire to learn more about the exciting world of business, and a willingness to work in class, and at home.
