NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Refrigeration at City Training Services

Course description

The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Apprenticeship teaches students to become problem solvers in the fields of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning.

Students in this program will understand technical knowledge and practices essential to work in the heating and cooling fields program. The learner will be taught by qualified and experienced tutors at one of our approved local Colleges who will be supportive and encourage “ hands on “ learning as well as classroom theory. For the duration of the apprenticeship the learner will receive full support from one of our dedicated training co-ordinators who will maintain regular contact and conduct a progress review every 10 weeks.

Course content

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Installing and Maintaining Refrigeration Systems which has:

Knowledge Units

Understand how to communicate with others within Building Services Engineering

Understand how to apply environmental protection measures within BSE

Understand how to apply scientific principles within

Understand refrigeration system installation, testing and maintenance techniques

Competence Units

Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering

Apply safe working practices in building services engineering working environments

Install, test and maintain refrigeration systems

Handling fluorinated gases and ozone-depleting substances - category 1 personnel

Understand and carry out site preparation and pipework fabrication techniques for RAC

plus either -

Understand and carry out electrical work on RAC systems and components

Or

Understand and carry out electrical work on RAC systems and components

Entry requirements

GCSE grade C and above or equivalent in Maths & English would be an advantage.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed through written & practical Assignments, and E-Volve on line examinations, plus on site observations.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Refrigeration, an apprentice will have the skills, knowledge and qualifications to:

Register on an appropriate Certification Scheme

Progress to learning and assessment programmes that lead to relevant Level 3

Qualifications and/or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Refrigeration or Refrigeration Service and Maintenance

Progress in their career into such job roles such as Technician, Designer Estimator,

Project Manager, Site/Workshop Supervisor/Manager, Chartered Engineer, Sales Engineer
