AS Level: Physical Education at King Edward VII Science and Sport College, Coalville
In AS, students will study three units. Anatomy and Physiology which involves the skeletal and muscular systems, motion and movement and how the cardiovascular and respiratory systems adapt to exercise. Skill acquisition consists of learning how people develop new skills and apply them to sport. The final theoretical component is Socio– Cultural which involves how culture has changed sport and issues that are current in sport..
5 A * - C achieving at least a Merit for BTEC Sport
Work is assessed through a written examination in June (worth 60%) and a practical moderation (worth 40%). Practical assessment can be either as a player, a coach, or an official. Students must demonstrate skills for their TWO favourite sports and commentate on one.
The majority of students of physical education go on to be either PE Teachers, Physiotherapist / Occupational Therapist, Personal Trainers, Sports Journalism, Commentators, Sports Scientists, Sports Coaches or in the forces.
