Business Access to Higher Education Diploma Level 3 at Southport College

Course description

The course is designed to enable those Adult Learners the opportunity to gain the necessary academic qualifications for entry into business professions and higher education courses.

Course content

Candidates will study units relevant to the following areas:

*Business Planning Skills
*Business Organisation
*Business Operations
*Business Management

Together with units in Maths, English, Personal Development and Research Skills all aimed at preparing learners for study at undergraduate level.

Entry requirements

Candidates wishing to start an Access to Higher Education Diploma are recommended to have GCSE in English and Maths at Grade C or above as Universities generally require these qualifications. It is recommended that you check this with your preferred universities.

For the Access programme the minimum entry requirement is GCSE in Maths or English at Grade 'C' or above. Applicants who possess Adult literacy and numeracy at level 2 will also meet the minimum entry requirements, however must be advised that not all universities will accept these. Acceptance is also subject to satisfactory interview to ensure that each applicant:

*Has aims that match the programme
*Has the ability to benefit fromf the programme
*Has the potential to achieve

Students may also be required to undertake a short written assessment prior to an offer of acceptance being made.

Students whose first language is not English should have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. Any learners who do not have a sufficient level of written English would be advised to complete relevant ESOL qualifications prior to enrolling on a Access to HE course.


There will be a mix of continuous assessment methods - essays, reports, presentations, case studies, centre set examinations.

Future opportunities

Students who are successful in gaining the Access to Higher Education Diploma - Business pathway are able to progress on to study at degree level in a related subject.
