Applied ICT

Applied ICT is a Double A-Level that encompasses a wide range of highly employable skills. You will learn how to build websites and databases, develop graphic solutions for businesses as well as programming code. You will be responsible for taking each project from idea stage, through to evaluation, learning skills that both universities and employers are citing as vital.

The Applied ICT specification allows you to apply the skills you learn to real world business problems, allowing you to develop skills such as critical analysis, problem solving and effective evaluation.

Career possibilities in ICT include Software Engineering, Games  design and Multimedia Computing as well as many others. ICT is a fast paced subject, and the skills you will learn in Applied ICT are at the forefront of this using industry standard software. Applied ICT is a double award equivalent to 2 A-Levels.

Entry requirements

To study A-Levels at RSFC you must have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A* - C, covering at least four different subject areas. Two of the 5 A* - C grades must include GCSE Maths and English Language. A good school reference, attendance and behaviour record are also required as is a positive college interview.

Financial information

If you are between 16 and 19 years old and think that you might struggle with the costs of full-time education you may apply for a bursary. The students most in need will be eligible to receive a bursary of £1,200 a year. This group includes:

• Disabled young people in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance

• Young people in care• Care leavers

• Young people in receipt of income support

Other students facing genuine financial difficulties can apply for the Discretionary Bursary Fund (DBF).The DBF can support students with travel costs, equipment, books and other course-related costs.
