AS/A2 Level in Textile Design at Great Marlow School

Course description

Textiles are more than just clothes. Did you know that the Textiles Industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world? And that the United Kingdom produces some of the world leaders in fashion, including Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood? Also did you know that Smart textile fibres are used in high visibility coats and the Speedo suit? Did you know that Textiles fibres can be found in the wheels of a car and in the walls of buildings? Textiles are used in all areas of our daily lives and there are a huge variety of courses and careers available to students, having followed the Textiles A-Level Course.

Textiles provides wide study opportunities ranging from fashion, interiors, accessories and aesthetics to industrial uses of textiles, and from creative and industrial work to aspects of manufacturing and industrial and commercial practices.

Entry requirements

Students should have achieved at least a Grade B in GCSE Design and Textiles Technology. Students who have not studied Textiles at GCSE Level to a Grade B should have at least studied another course in Design and Technology to a Grade B and Textiles in KS3. Any student who has no prior knowledge of textiles should contact the Head of Textiles for an interview with their portfolio work.
