Design & Technology Product Design at Moor End Academy

Course description

GCSE Product Design is a modern and inspiring design course aimed at preparing students for the modern workplace.  Students are encouraged to design and make products with creativity and originality, using a range of materials and techniques.  Packaging, labelling and instructions are also encouraged as part of the complete design proposal so that products can be evaluated for their commercial viability.  This is a stimulating and active subject that allows students to explore and develop their designing and making capabilities.

Course content

For pupils interested in working with a range of materials such as wood, metal and plastic. The Product Design course offers an insight into the commercial use of different materials as a manufacturing material. The coursework is made of two components:Designing and Making

Assessment

Coursework is worth 60% of the overall grade.Written exam is worth 40 % of the overall grade. The written exam is in two tiers:Higher tierFoundation tier.
