Applied Science BTEC National Extended Certificate Level 3 at Nottingham Girl's Academy

Course description

Are you interested in finding out how science is applied in the working environment? Do you see yourself working within the scientific field in the future? This could be in laboratories, forensic science, medical science, environmental science and within industry. This course will consider the practical applications of science.

Course content

This is a very wide ranging course which looks at the three main sciences (physics, chemistry, biology) and also looks at many other aspects in detail such as forensic science and astronomy.

Entry requirements

5+ A*-C grades at GCSE including C grade or above in English, mathematics and science. Merit or above in level 2 BTEC applied science.

Assessment

Coursework portfolio and external assessment.

Future opportunities

University – This could help with an application to university for any science based course especially if it involves a lot of technical ability such as forensic science. It also provides valuable UCAS points which would help with any university application.

Careers – The skills gained from a science qualification are valued by most employers; however for anybody looking towards a career as a laboratory technician in schools, hospitals or universities it is invaluable. Industry is always in need of skilled scientists in a wide range of fields.
