Course description

Why should i study Media Studies?

It is a fascinating and challenging subject.
It will help me become more aware of the power and influence of the media.
Media is useful for careers in TV, radio, film, journalism, marketing, advertising, and publishing.
It will open doors to many areas of higher education or employment.

Course content

Media Studies is a combination of practical and theoretical knowledge. You will have three components; 2 exams and 1 practical (NEA)

  • Media products 1 hour and 45 minute exam
  • Media in a digital age 2 hour exam
  • Making media – Non-Examined Assessment. You will make three media texts. This might include making a short film, a magazine, a podcast or some other practical task.

Throughout this course, learners will study nine different media forms. These are: television, film, radio, newspapers, magazines, advertising and marketing, online social and participatory media, video games, music videos.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs (or equivalent Level 2 passes) at grade 5 including English and Maths.
