*Product Design GCSE (One Year) at The Westwood Academy (West Coventry Sixth Form)

Course content

This GCSE involves candidates in activities that develop innovation and flair when designing products. The course does not have a material bias. It anticipates that candidates will develop their skills through work in a range of designing media, modelling and production materials and the use of ICT.

Key features of this course are to expose candidates to design-based activities as well as valuing flair and imagination. Encouraging candidates to explore and develop, experiences and express their design ideas. This course provides a coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course for candidates whether they wish to pursue the study of Design and Technology in the future or their last experience of a design subject.

Entry requirements

Candidates who wish to choose this subject should have a minimum level of 5c.

Assessment

The product design course is made up as a modular qualification with 4 units these are :

Unit 1 Developing and Applying Design Skills
Unit 2 Designing and making Innovation Challenge
Unit 3 Making, Testing and Marketing Products.
Unit 4 Designing Influences
