Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Apprenticeship (Advanced Level 3) at Blackburn College

Course description

This Apprenticeship covers a range of occupations within Hospitality and Catering, one of the largest industries in the country. If you are interested in a career in working 'front of house' you could train as waiting staff and learn how to serve customers. You could work in all sorts of kitchens from fine dining to chain restaurants through to gastro pubs. To undertake an Apprenticeship in Hospitality and Catering you must be committed and have the determination and motivation to succeed. 

Course content

Selection of units from the Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Advanced Apprenticeship:

  • Provide leadership for your team
  • Contribute to the control of resources
  • Maintain the health, safety and security of the working environment

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements to study an Apprenticeship at Blackburn College. You will have an initial assessment when you come in for an interview, and this will show the level of English and maths qualifications, known as functional skills, that you will study alongside your apprenticeship.

Blackburn College will work with applicants to help find a suitable employer where possible. However we always advise anyone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to be actively seeking employment for themselves too.

Assessment

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

  • Course work
  • Exams
  • Oral questioning
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Practical demonstration /assignment
  • Practical examination
  • Written examination

Future opportunities

Once you have completed your Level 3 course, you will be able to apply to a range of Universities. Many students progress to University Centre at Blackburn College where 9 out of 10 graduates are in work or further study just six months after graduation.

Particular courses students progress on to include: Hospitality Management Foundation Degree FdA or Hospitality Management (Events Management) Foundation Degree FdA. Following your foundation degree you are able to progress on to a Top Up Year which means you can achieve a BA (Hons) qualification, validated by Lancaster University, in three years in total.

Foundation Degrees generally require you to study in College from one full day a week or one afternoon and evening a week, meaning for many students you are able to continue working with the same employer you have worked with throughout your apprenticeship.
