German at Sprowston Community High School

Course description

Studying a foreign language will equip you with a variety of unique skills that are invaluable in the world of work. You will become a more knowledgeable and informed person and debates and discussions in the classroom will give you a broad perspective on a wide range of issues and topics. You will also gain in-depth knowledge of Germany and German speaking countries. The lessons will be intellectually stimulating and challenging as well as varied and interesting. You will work individually, in pairs or as part of a group. We attach great importance to your independent study skills, which you will develop to a very high standard.


Unit 1: Listening, Reading & Writing.

Unit 2: Speaking Topics for Units:

* Leisure and lifestyle

* The Individual and Society You are encouraged to develop and communicate your ideas on topics, as well as finding out more about German society


Unit 3: Listening, Reading & Writing

Unit 4: Speaking Topics for Units:

* Environment Issues

* Social and Political Issues

* Current Social Issues

You tackle a range of issues and debates and really get your teeth into in-depth study of a cultural topic, such as a German film or literary text or the study of a German region.

Our students often comment on how much they have learned in the course aside from the language.

Entry requirements

To study A Level courses you will need to have achieved at least 5 GCSE Grades A*-C in full courses including either English or Maths. B grade or higher in GCSE German. Please talk to your teacher if you are bi-lingual or taking AS units already.
