Course description

Have you ever wondered who is really in control? Do you want to know why you choose the clothes, food, friends that you do? Then Media Studies is for you! You will evaluate and analyse a variety of media products, and develop practical skills spanning a range of media forms. You’ll find contemporary, diverse topics and varied and engaging content, helping you to develop research and problem-solving skills as well as your creativity. You’ll also refine your debating skills through the discussion of contemporary issues from a range of perspectives.

Entry requirements

GCSE Media B/C preferable and English 4


Issues and debates in the Media (2 hour paper, 35%)
Analysis and context of Close Studu Products (2 hour paper, 35%)
Creating a Media Product (non-exam assessment, 30%)

Future opportunities

Media Studies is increasingly popular as a BA Hons course in its own right. The core skills of independent thinking and critical evaluation make it equally transferable to a range of humanities subjects in further education. Whilst vocational prospects within the Media Industry are not yet reliant on previous study, this is becoming an increasingly important first step for people seeking employment in this vibrant area of employment.
