ICT Level 2 Applied Certificate at Long Road Sixth Form College

Course description

The ICT Level 2 Certificate is available on the Humanities pathway of our Access to A level programme. This one-year qualification enables you to extend your range of GCSE qualifications in order to progress to A level courses. Students on the General pathway will gain GCSE or equivalent qualifications in four of the following subjects: English, Use of Maths, ICT, Psychology, Sociology and Film Studies. You will work as a cohesive group, building the foundations to enable you to be successful on Level 3 programmes.   You will also receive tutorial support and assistance with your study skills.

No previous qualification in ICT is required but previous experience of using computers will be helpful. Skills in ICT are invaluable and can provide a wide range of career options as well as routes into further and higher education.

 

Course content

Communication in the IT industry

Communication is a vital skill for any individual. The effective use of communication and flexibility of styles within the workplace is essential to maintain good working practice. This unit identifies the different IT tools available for safe and secure communication and exchange of information within an organization. You will consider approaches and adapt the way you communicate, depending on your audience. This unit will prepare you to use various communication channels effectively within a working environment.

Website development

The Internet is an essential part of everyday life, used for shopping, communication, leisure, gaming and finding information, to name just a few. This unit will prepare you to design, create and test a fully functioning website to meet a client’s specification, whilst also providing the basic knowledge of the components which aid web accessibility.

Assessment

The qualification is internally assessed by coursework portfolio. The grading is Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction *.

 

Entry requirements

At least 3 Grade Cs in a range of subjects, with at least a Grade 3 in English and Maths.

Future opportunities

This course provides the basis for progression to the Level 3 programme, along with the other subjects studied on the General pathway.
