Activity Leadership Apprenticeship Level 2 at Sheffield College

Course description

This is a one year work based training course

 About the course

This Apprenticeship Programme offers you an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn.

As an apprentice you will study on the job, building up valuable knowledge and skills and gaining qualifications.  You will be paid a wage at the same time.  Three days a week will be spent with an employer and two days a week you will be studying at Norton.  Training in this way provides you with job matched qualifications and a direct link into employment.

Sheffield College already has good links with local employers, but applications from students who already have a placement are particularly welcome.

The course is made up of a range of qualifications and you will learn about the sport and coaching, leadership, sport as a business, safeguarding and protecting young people and leading a healthy lifestyle.  You will also study anatomy and physiology, injuries in sport and planning, delivering and evaluating a sport/leisure activity.

You will spend the majority of your week in a sport or leadership environment.  Whilst you are at work you will have regular visits from your college tutor who will help you achieve an NVQ Level 2 qualification in sport and active leisure by demonstrating your skills and knowledge.  You will need a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check.

At college you will work towards a technical certificate in sport and will be expected to study Functional Skills in Maths or English where necessary and, depending on your workplace, will have the opportunity to study for additional National Governing Body Awards in sport.  These may include emergency first aid at work and awards which include basketball and football coaching, fitness instructing courses at Level1 and 2, community sports leadership award, bronze medallion swimming award and pool lifeguard.

Apprenticeship programmes are open to all ages and you will be paid a minimum of £2.68 per hour.

At College you will be taught by highly experienced qualified staff with a range of academic and industry backgrounds.

    • Welcome to Hillsborough Campus

Our Hillsborough campus in the north of the city is our creative hub with Art and Design, Photography, Fashion, and Music all based at the campus alongside more traditional courses such as A-Levels and our strong Sports base.

The facilities at Hillsborough really have to be seen to be believed (why don’t you check out the tour!) from shiny Mac suites, which there are numerous, to sprung dance studios, a theatre and a TV studio.

Hillsborough’s not just for those who are confident on the stage or in front of the camera, it also has a stage production workshop for set design and prop making, a wire tension grid which provides a strong, safe and virtually invisible platform for lighting changes to be made.

Hillsborough also has a gym, a 3G sports pitch and a sports hall which is available for use for all, not just those studying Sport.

If you need childcare, no problem! The Hillsborough campus has an Ofsted Outstanding rated nursery onsite.
