Clinical Healthcare Support Intermediate Apprenticeship at West Herts College

Course description

This apprenticeship is ideal if you are already working in a clinical healthcare support role, providing assistance to healthcare professionals in diagnosing, treating and caring for patients. Gain the skills and knowledge to become competent in supporting doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and healthcare scientists.

Course content

This apprenticeship is ideal for care assistants employed in the care or health sector working in residential, nursing, learning and physical disability establishments.

Social care is about helping people with a particular need, such as the disabled, the elderly or people with learning disabilities. This type of care usually takes place in the home or in care homes or out in the community, and can include anything from helping people get dressed to transporting them to and from a residential home or taking them shopping. As an apprentice in social care, you could be a personal care assistant helping someone in their everyday life.

Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Health and Social Care Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care

The qualification is achieved by gaining practical experience in the work place and gathering evidence into an online portfolio to demonstrate their competence. Necessary theory, underpinning knowledge and support will given in the work place with students being required to attend College workshop sessions to pass written and functional skills tests.

Entry requirements

Employment at a suitable level - most employers ask for GCSEs in English and maths, but may have additional specific requirements. You will also need an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check and to have been employed for 3 months prior to the start of the course.

Future opportunities

Following the successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be able to progress to an advanced apprenticeship in health and social care or a related area.
