AS/A2 Biology at The Deepings School

Course description

You will study many areas of biology - biochemistry, cellular biology, physiology, ecology, diversity, genetics, variation, evolution and classification. Most lessons are taught in the laboratories. Practical work will form an important part of the course. Lessons will involve a variety of activities where you will always be encourage to participate through class discussion. You may be requested to carry out presentations to the rest of the class. Progress will also be assessed by end of topic tests at regular points throughout the course. Work will be marked using the grades and criteria used by examiners

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs including at least a grade B in GCSE Biology or grade B in GCSE Additional Science in which Biology component is grade B and a grade C in GCSE Mathematics

Future opportunities

Studying biology is a good entry route into a variety of careers. Past Biology students at The Deepings School have gone on to study biological science, medicine, forestry, physiotherapy, sports science and many other subjects. Biology can lead to nursing, teaching or more technical vocational qualifications. A wide variety of students study Biology, they combine it with complementary subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, PE, Geography, or Psychology, or choose it for contrast with subjects such as English, Art or Philosophy
