Sport and Physical Activity (CTEC single award) at Ponteland Community High School

Course description

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?

Those who have a genuine i nterest in all aspects of sport

Most of the lessons are theory and classroom based and will require good IT skills. 

Students who have good grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics will h ave an advantage with some aspects of the physiology, biomechanics and a natomy aspects covered in units

Students should be highly motivated and be willing to work hard and independently

Students must be actively involved in sport, either playing, umpiring/refereeing or coaching, for school or a club

Course content

3 mandatory units:

Unit 1 : Body Systems and the effects of physical activity

Unit 2 : Sports Coaching and Leadership

Unit 3; Sports Organisation and Development

And optional units which may include :

Performance analysis in sport and exercise 

Organisation of sports events

Biomechanics and movement analysis

Nutrition and diet for sports and exercise 

Practical skills in sport and physical activity

Sport and exercise psychology

Entry requirements

5 A - C grade including a C in GCSE Sports Studies if studied OR Maths and Science at grade C if you did not study GCSE Sport Studies

Assessment

Coursework – Power - point presentations; Written assignments; Simulation; Formal observation; Questioning; Written tests.

All work will be externally assessed through a moderation process.
