Music at King Charles I School
You will be required to work independently in order to develop your performing and composing skills. You will need to prepare a performance of 5-6 minutes for AS and 12-15 minutes at A2. You will study compositional techniques and complete one composition at AS.
You then have a choice of tasks to complete in this area at A2. In addition to these coursework tasks, we will work together to extend your analytical skills by studying a wide range of musical extracts under the broad headings of Instrumental Music, Vocal Music and Applied Music. This will prepare you for the one examination at the end of each year.
It is recommended that prospective candidates gain a Grade C or above in GCSE Music.
It is also advisable to have performing skills of at least grade 4 or above on your main instrument/voice.
In addition, some knowledge of keyboard playing is helpful but not essential.
