Plumbing Studies Level 2 Diploma at Epping Forest College
You will be working towards achieving units in both theory and practical studies. The practical tasks are mapped to the theory units. The theory units are assessed by multiple choice test papers and the practical tasks are assessed in the College workshops. The workshop areas have been designed to meet the awarding body’s criteria of providing a real life environment to test learners to the industry standard that are required in the workplace. These include the fitting of a complete bathroom suite and the installation of a tank and cylinder.
You will study units including:
- working safely in plumbing
- key plumbing principles
- cold water systems
- common plumbing processes
- domestic hot water systems
- sanitation systems
- central heating systems
- electrical supply
- environmental awareness
English & Maths is included as part of your study programme at EFC. All students will be working towards a GCSE Grade C in English Language & Maths alongside their chosen subject. If you’ve already achieved these grades, we will work with you to develop your literacy and numeracy skills further throughout the year.
You will have the opportunity to undertake relevant work experience throughout your programme. Your tutor will help you identify the employability skills you need to improve, and our dedicated work experience team will help find a placement that’s right for you.
Successful completion of Level 1 Certificate in Building Services or relevant employment experience.
You will build a portfolio of work showing your skills through a variety of practical tasks.. All practical activities are assessed in a workshop. Multiple-choice theory papers are taken during the course, with one online test at the end of the course. In the final term of your course there is a final practical assessment to install a bathroom suite and hot water system. This will be marked and will contribute towards your final grade.
You will need sturdy boots and overalls.
It is very important to find out about all of your options after you have completed your course. Some careers will require specific qualifications and training for you to work in the sector, whereas other jobs and careers do not have a set training route.
You may decide to continue to the next level of your current subject at this college. The College offers both A Levels and a wide range of subjects at Level 3. You must have the correct qualifications to progress on to Level 3 courses - this is usually an A*-C at GCSE, or a Merit/Distinction in the Level 2 vocational course.
You may also choose to apply for an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3). Information about apprenticeships can be found at the National Apprenticeship website - you can search and apply for apprenticeships there. You then complete ONE application form, which you can use to apply for any Apprenticeship. The entry requirements vary a lot, depending on the employer, the college and the Apprenticeship. Notgoingtouni has information about Higher Apprenticeships as well as vacancies.
