Health Science Level 3 Extended Diploma at Stoke on Trent College

Course description

If you already have a passion for the field of science and would like to explore options in the health and medical professions, then this is the course for you. This qualification provides you with the knowledge, skills and practical experience to pursue a career in the health and Social Care sector. Whether you see yourself as a radiographer, laboratory assistant or paramedic. The Extended Diploma allows learners to build on their knowledge and skills within Health and Social Care and will spend 2 days each week in a real work environment English and Maths will also form an important part of your course, as these are kills we use in all aspects of our study, work and everyday life.

Course content

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade A* - C including English and Science plus grade A*-D Maths or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma, appropriate NVQ Level 2 or Intermediate qualification, along with English, Maths and Science GCSE grade A* - C. You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you. All learners will need a clear DBS prior to the start of the course and be required to purchase a uniform.

Assessment

Progress is assessed during the course through unit based assignments, case studies and placement reports. You will also be encouraged to evaluate your progress through your Individual Learning Plan and developments. Assignments are graded Pass, Merit and Distinction where tutors will support learners to aim high and achieve high grades.

Future opportunities

The Extended Diploma attracts 120-360 UCAS points. If you decide to go on to University you could study nursing, midwifery ,paramedic science or other health Science related subjects. If you want to go straight into employment you could work in a variety of healthcare or clinical settings.

Further information

A practical, work-related course is equivalent to three A-Levels and prepares learners for careers including nursing, laboratory technician, radiography and the Health service. Learners also have the opportunity to enter World Skills competitions to showcase their talent by competing with candidates from around the country. Learners will attend a work placement for 2 days each week and must have a clear DBS check prior to the start of the course.
