Light Vehicle Maintenance Pre-Apprenticeship Programme at Bridgwater College

Course description

This course will interest if you are 16 - 19 and have a keen interest in the motor vehicle industry; it also can help you in to full time employment on completing your qualification.

Course content

This is a very practical course offering you an introduction to the motor industry, which leads to a full qualification including knowledge of a wide range of vehicle systems. You will cover all basic practical systems of the motor vehicle. You will also use the Electronic systems in the auto-lab. The qualification is split between theory and practical sessions. It is very much a practical based qualification with a theme of understanding basic vehicle principles.

Entry requirements

You will need GCSEs in the D - G range or Basic Skills at Entry 3, a positive attitude and the potential and stamina to complete the programme and progress.  A keen interest in the Motor Industry, and keen interest to succeed.

Assessment

The qualification is achieved by demonstrating that you are both practically and theoretically competent. This ensures a good all round ability. Your practical evidence will be developed in the college workshops throughout the year and by working in a garage whilst on work experience after Christmas. Sitting an on-line exam towards the end of the year assesses the theory.
