Course description

A Level Business Studies provides students with the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

Course content

What will I learn at A Level?

Initially you will develop an understanding of management decision making within the following key business areas at local, national and global level:

Marketing, Finance, Operations and Human Resource Management. 

This will then progress to investigation strategic decisions facing businesses, with a focus on influences, feasibility and risks of strategic decision making.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements.  Students are not required to have studied GCSE Business Studies, but a grade C or above in English and Mathematics would be beneficial to learners as you will be expected to answer data response style questions and undertake financial calculations.

Assessment

How will I be assessed at A Level?

100% examinations: 3 papers of equal weighting and duration:

  • Paper 1:  2 hours, 33.3%, 80 marks
  • Paper 2:  2 hours, 33.3%, 80 marks
  • Paper 3:  2 hours, 33.3%, 80 marks

Future opportunities

A Level Business Studies is highly regarded by universities and industry.  There is a number of Business and Economics related degrees that would be the natural progression from this A Level, but it is also an asset for other degrees, such as Law, Accountancy and Social Sciences.  Studying A level Business also equips students with the necessary skills needed for careers in Business, Management, Retail and Finance.
