Performing Arts at Grimsby Institute

The Grimsby Institute is one of the UK’s renowned National Skills Academies for the Creative and Cultural Arts. This means that the training our learners receive, whether that’s on or off-stage, are the skills and techniques that employers in the world of Theatre and TV are really looking for.
The Performing Arts covers music, dancing, acting, physical theatre, musical theatre and theatre studies.
You will learn about the Principles of Acting, Classical and contemporary Theatre Performance and Drama Improvisation.
In dance you will look at Jazz techniques, Classical Ballet techniques, choreography and international dance. Learners will get many opportunities to perform.
The Entry Level and Level 1 courses in Creative Arts covers a range of areas including Music, Media, Performing Arts and Art and Design and will provide progression on to Level 2 in any of these subjects.
Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual's previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.
The following list offers a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.
Entry Level 3 Programmes
No formal entry qualifications but subject to approval from the Foundation Learning Assessment Team.
GCSEs grade E to G or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates.
Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 1 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.
Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 2 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at level 2.
If learners want to carry on studying they could choose the BA Performance or a BA Professional Writing at the University Centre Grimsby, which is perfect if someone wants to develop their script writing abilities or the BA Digital Film and Television Production, ideal for someone who wants to mix their creativity with their passion for the latest media.
