Mathematics (A Level) EDEXCEL at The Robert Napier School

Course description

Maths is a highly sought after transferable skill – it demonstrates the ability to think logically, solve problems and think analytically. The course aims to extend students’ knowledge of A/A* GCSE topics in all areas of Maths.

The GCE A’ Level Maths course consists of 6 modules: Core 1, Core 2, Core 3, Core 4, Mechanics 1, Statistics 1 or Decision 1. All 6 modules need to be studied over 2 years.

Course content


Module 1 Core 1 (Algebra, Quadratics, Graphs, Sequences, Calculus)

Module 2 Core 2 (Algebra, Trig, Graphs, Series, Binomial, Calculus)

Module 3 Statistics 1, Mechanics 1 or Decision 1


Module 4 Core 3 (Algebraic fractions, functions, trig, differentiation)

Module 5 Core 4 (Partial fractions, Graphs, Binomial, Vectors, Calculus)

Module 6 Statistics 1, Mechanics 1 or Decision 1

Entry requirements

B grade GCSE Mathematics


By exam only, each exam is 75 marks.

3 exams at the end of AS, 3 exams at the end of A2. Each exam is 1 hour 30 minutes and all 6 modules count equally.

Future opportunities

Further Maths, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Engineering, Physics or any other science related field at University.
