DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY: PRODUCT DESIGN (3D Design) at Steyning Grammar School

Course description

We offer the opportunity to follow a specialised course in 3D design which allows students to design and make products and models in a variety of materials. The exam board allows us flexibility to offer students a common core with an element of specialism to suit different interests and subject backgrounds. This course provides routes towards Degree Level courses in Design and Technology.

Product Design 3D Design is closely related to Resistant Materials and Graphic Products. Students following this route should have a strong interest in general product design as during the course students will have the opportunity to produce fully functional, creatively designed products using a range of resistant materials or models of original designs that could be produced if the prospective customers wanted. Products produced in previous years include lighting, jewellery and architectural models of shops, restaurants and even extensions to the new Boarding House!

Students also have the opportunity to be experimental and design products which, at present, don’t exist - for example, past ideas have included holographic glasses and smart computers that fit to the human body.
