German AS Level at Riverside College Halton

Course content

On this course you will be investigating topics that relate to the country of Germany; its society, contemporary issues and culture, as well as the structure and grammar of the German language. You will learn linguistic terminology and vocabulary sufficient to enable you to hold detailed discussions on these topic areas.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade A-C, one to be in maths or English Language, including a minimum of 2 grade Bs, one to be in German.


Assessment is by oral examination, listening and responding to recorded material, a written exam and coursework.

Future opportunities

You could progress to a BA Hons degree in German, often in combination with Business, Law, Politics or English. Following this you could enter employment as a translator, interpreter, teacher or bilingual Personal Assistant. A foreign language is also an advantage in other jobs such as publishing, the media, the Civil and Diplomatic Service and the travel and tourism industry.
