PRODUCT DESIGN: TEXTILES at Langley Grammar School
The specification offers candidates the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and practical skills through a scientific base. Students study and work with a variety of fabrics and components used in the design and making of textile products. There is a strong experimental influence to use a number of different media to enable the students to create visionary textiles. They work in both two and three dimensional forms creating their own fabrics through needlefelting, use of angelina fibres and a variety of fusing techniques. Students design and manufacture textile products alongside gaining an understanding of the processes and procedures of commercial textile manufacture.
It is desirable to have studied GCSE Textiles Technology but many students have chosen the course without having studied it at GCSE and have achieved the top grades, so it is not essential.
