Sport BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Ravens Wood School
A BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma is a practical, work related course. Students will learn through completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course focuses on a particular subject area and develops a range of specialist skills and knowledge. Over the two year course the Diploma in Sport will allow students the opportunity to develop their understanding of sport in a social context as well as gaining experience of coaching, development and fitness training. This is the ideal subject for the talented practical performer who is aiming to move into the sports development or leisure and recreation field.
The course is made up of 7 units - 3 core units are externally assessed and 4 assessed in the school. All students take units which include aspects of:
- Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport
- Physiology of fitness
- Assessing risk in sport
- Fitness training and programming
- Practical team Sports
- Current issues in sport
- Leadership in sport
5 GCSE at A* - C including Maths and English Language or Literature.
All units are assessed and graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. The diploma is equivalent to one A level. Once completed the qualification can be used to apply for jobs or used alongside other qualifications to go into higher education.
The Diploma is valued by employers and higher education establishments. If you wanted to get a job straight away you could, for example, work in sports centres, leisure management or outdoor activities centres. Should you decide to go to university or college you could take a degree or a BTEC Higher National in subjects such as Sports Studies, Leisure Management, Recreation Management or Teacher Training.
