Hair and Beauty Studies - Advanced Diploma at University Academy Keighley

Course description

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a brand new course that involves a range of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Skills. It will give you the knowledge and skills that you will need for college, university or work in an exciting, creative and enjoyable way.

Course content

The Diploma will include Principal Learning, an Extended Project, 10 days work experience and general learning including Functional Skills, ICT, English and Mathematics.The Principal Learning qualification in the Advanced Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies is made of up 8 units. All are mandatory. These are as follows:Business location and design for hair and beauty sectorEvent management and enterprise for hair and beauty sectorProduct research, design and development within the hair and beauty sectorExploring business management for hair and beauty sectorExploring media and image within the hair and beauty sectorExploring the world of spasBusiness planning and finance within hair and beauty sectorCosmetic scienceThe Diploma is a great new way of combining classwork with hands on experience. This new qualification allows lots of opportunity to come into contact with people who are employed in the industry. You will learn how to work with other people and express yourself confidently in a work environment by developing personal learning and thinking skills.

Entry requirements

You will need to demonstrate a general interest in Hair and Beauty. You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A - C (including English) or have successfully completed the Higher Level Diploma. You will be required to provide references and attend an interview.

There are several ways this course can be assessed:By building up a portfolio of evidenceCourseworkThrough practical demonstrationsPractical AssessmentsA written examinationThe Advanced Diploma is equivalent to 3.5 A levelsAlternatively you study for the Progression Diploma which is equivalent to 2.5 A levels. To be awarded a Progression Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies you must achieve the Principal Learning and Extended Project at a Level 3 and you must have achieved Level 2 Functional Skills in English, ICT and maths.These Diplomas are graded A*/A/B/C/D/E

Future opportunities

The qualification will provide opportunities for progression onto higher education.Employers have been involved in the development of the Diploma. The course offers progression opportunities for future emplyment within the Hair and Beauty sectors and related industries. This new course has been developed with the relevant employers and Habia (Sector Skills Council).
