Course description

Purpose



The Level 3 Certificate in Beauty Therapy Studies (Massage) (QCF) is a technical level qualification that provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as a massage therapist either as an employee or in a self-employed capacity. This qualification is based on Habia National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification is recognised by the UK's largest beauty and complementary therapy trade body/professional association i.e. The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) and also the UK's second largest association representing beauty and complementary therapy employers; the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a massage therapist.

This qualification has specifically been designed for the 16-19 age group and builds on existing knowledge and understanding of beauty therapy gained at Level 2, enabling learners to expand the scope of their technical skills to prepare learners for employment in beauty salons, spas and other businesses or as a self-employed massage therapist.
 

Course content

The content of this qualification is comprised of all the required elements to work effectively as a massage therapist including health and safety, client care and communication and body massage incorporating anatomy and physiology and client consultation skills. These units are all mandatory.

Learners also have the opportunity to undertake optional units to enhance their range of practical skills such as stone therapy, Indian head massage and massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils. Learners can also choose to undertake units in the theories and principles of massage or contributing to the effective running of a business.
 

Entry requirements

It is recommended that learners have achieved a level of education equivalent to four GCSE’s at grades A*-C prior to commencing the programme, however, learners should discuss their own circumstances with the College as entry is based on qualifications, skills and experience as well as a keen interest in a career in the Beauty Therapy industry.

Assessment

  • Assessment is through portfolio building and continual assessment of practical skills, written work and assignments.
  • Learner progress is monitored through regular tutorials and reviews.
  • Support is provided by our expert team throughout the course
