History AS/A2 at Tech City College

Course description

“If you don’t know history, then you don’t know anything. You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.” Michael Crichton, author. Studying A-level History will help you appreciate social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity through various aspects of British and non-British history. You will acquire an understanding of different identities within society and an appreciation of the value and significance of understanding the past. You will have the opportunity to ask relevant and significant questions, and to research them, developing your skills as an effective and independent learner, as well as a critical and reflective thinker.

Entry requirements

6 GCSEs at grade C or above including a minimum grade B in English. History GCSE is not necessary but would be beneficial.


You will be assessed through written examination and coursework.

Future opportunities

History A-level is a well-respected qualification that supports further study in other areas such as English, politics and modern languages. The qualification can also open the door to a wide range of related careers such as law, journalism, archaeology, management, politics, the civil service or social work.
