Beauty Therapy Level 2 Diploma at Newbury College
This one year course offers the opportunity to develop skills in Beauty Therapy. The course is divided into modules which range from Health and Safety to Manicures and Makeup and from Improving Facial Skin Condition to Providing Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments and Waxing. Students will work on each other to gain experience before working on paying clients. Leading manufacturers, suppliers and guest lecturers will visit to give lectures. You must ensure your attendance remains above 90% to enable you to be successful on your course.
From September to December all practical aspects of the course are taught. At the beginning of December, male week and Family members week are undertaken, males are encouraged to come into the salon to have a facial and manicure treatment, similarly family members can indulge in a variety of treatments. In January the salon becomes a working environment where members of the public can have a variety of treatments and students are assessed by the tutor undertaking the treatments to a high standard with all health and safety issues closely monitored. In February we invite Art Deco training into the salon and instruction is given on all aspects of makeup. This coincides with makeup week where formative and summative assessments are undertaken. By the end of June students will have completed all summative assessments competently and will achieve their level 2 Beauty Therapy Qualification.
Students will need to have five GCSE passes at grade D or above, preferably including Maths and English. Alternatively, students will be accepted onto the course if they have an equivalent vocational qualification at merit grade, and Functional Skills Maths and English, preferably at Level1.
Mature applicants will be considered with relevant experience
All students must have achieved, or show the ability to achieve, Maths and English to grade D or equivalent. Where a student has not yet fulfilled this requirement, a functional skills qualification is a mandatory part of this course.
Observation of practical work on clients, projects, assignments and case studies, oral questioning and online examinations. Learners also build a portfolio of evidence.
Progression is usually to Level 3 Beauty Therapy or if you choose to go into employment you may find work as an Apprentice, or as a cosmetic adviser within a department store, or in a salon performing basic beauty treatments, or become a mobile Beauty Therapist.
