Biology AS/A Level at The Commonweal School
Context led teaching develops student's interest in the world around us. This allows the development of a wider in-depth understanding of the biological world around us and an opportunity to develop key concepts for use in the fields of medical study and research. The course allows access to a wide variety of professions. The practical components of the course allow students' to explore the field of biology in greater depth.
The aims of the GCE in Biology are to enable students to:
a) develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for, biology including developing an interest in further study and careers in the subject
b) appreciate how society makes decisions about biology-related issues and how biology contributes to the success of the economy and society
c) develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of How Science Works
d) develop essential knowledge and understanding of different
e) areas of biology and how they relate to each other
Triple Science, Biology or additional/Core science both at grade B or above. Students applying with additional/core science will be looked at on a case by case selection
