Business (Retail) - Level 3 Extended Diploma (Edexcel) at Blackpool and The Fylde College

Course description

The Level 3 Edexcel Extended Diploma is a practical business-related course equivalent to 3 GCE A Levels and provides both a broad foundation of business education and a firm basis for specialism in retailing. This two-year programme is full-time, Monday to Friday (16 to 18 hours per week).

During the first year of Study you will cover the following modules:

  • Business Environment
  • Marketing
  • Business Communication
  • Business Accountancy
  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Developing Teams in business
  • Managing a Business Event
  • Understanding Retail

In your second year you will go on to study:

  • Relationship Marketing
  • Visual Merchandising
  • Fashion Retail
  • Food Retail
  • Career Development Planning
  • Managing business Information
  • Creative Product Promotion
  • Starting a Small Business
  • Market Research

Course content

The first year of the course is structured to provide you with a broad understanding of business, and all pathways study the same units in the first year. During the second year you specialise in a particular area of business. The pathways include:

  • Finance and Accountancy
  • Marketing
  • Project Management
  • Human Resources and Law
  • Retail


All units are internally set. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit and Distinction.

  • Mock Interviews

Future opportunities

The majority (80%) of students progress to Higher Education, many choosing to study Degrees in Management or Accounting at our University Centre. Our students also gain employment and Apprenticeships with local businesses. There are many opportunities for entrepreneur and employees with a sound understanding of finance, marketing, sales and management. The qualification has been designed in close collaboration with industry, it is fully supported by the Sector Skills Council and a range of organisations and employers meaning it is a highly respected route into employment and HE
