Apprenticeships offer people the chance to gain work experience, earn while they learn, and, achieve a nationally recognised qualification in a sector of their choosing. At Southwark we believe that apprenticeships are an important route to sustainable employment for our residents and a great way to develop local talent for businesses. That’s why we have committed to create 2,000 new apprenticeships in the Borough.
In 2015 we celebrate ten years of our own apprenticeship scheme. Investing in our future workforce to ensure we have the right people with the right skills who can fully develop their potential, is one of key priorities. Our apprenticeship programme is highly regarded as one of the key employment pathways to working in Southwark, with tremendous successes for our apprentices securing employment.
Building on the outstanding results of our own scheme we have launched the Southwark Apprenticeship Standard to set a new standard for quality apprenticeships in Southwark, celebrating and supporting businesses that are working to deliver outstanding apprenticeships in Southwark. With this Standard we will help transform lives and achieve a fairer future for all.
Educational qualification requirements will vary depending on the type and level of apprenticeship. In most cases educational requirements are five good GCSEs grade A* to C including Mathematics and English or equivalent. Each opportunity advertised will state the specific requirements.
