Vehicle Technology Diploma at Solihull College & University Centre

Course description

Our Level 2 course is for those developing their skills after achieving the Level 1 Diploma in Motor Vehicle. You will learn about light vehicle repair and maintenance such as servicing, transmission, electrics, engines and vehicle components.

Course content

During the course you will study the following areas both theoretically and practically:

- Chassis Components
- Engines and Components
- Transmission
- Vehicle Electrics
- Vehicle Servicing
- Stripping and Rebuilding Motor Vehicle Engines.

Entry requirements

Successful completion of a relevant Level 1 Diploma in an Engineering programme.

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English and Maths.

A suitable reference and a successful interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed through written and practical assignments. There are no exams on this programme.

Future opportunities

This qualification is accepted by the repair industry as the basic mechanic qualification and would be acceptable to gain employment.

If you are successful on this course you will be able to continue studying towards Level 3 in Motor Vehicle.

Further information

You will need to provide your own boots and overalls and all necessary equipment for taking notes.

Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.

    • Woodlands Campus

      An £8.5 million expansion of our Woodlands Campus now incorporates a new state of the art specialist centre for multi-craft, bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering, carpentry and an expanded motor vehicle training facility. A new sports pitch also enhances the existing sports facilities.

      The new Engineering and Construction facility houses twelve new workshops; six for construction and six for motor vehicle. The rooms accommodate an MOT/motor sport workshop; an engine workshop and further rooms for decorating, plastering and brickwork.

      Woodlands has purpose-built engineering workshops as well as commercial-standard hair and beauty salons. Our IT facilities, learning resource centres and library are also first-rate.

      We also offer a selection of higher education courses at our Woodlands Campus so you can continue your studies with us.

      Via Bus or Train

      The main bus terminal in north Solihull is located in Chelmsley Wood centre. The number 94, 676, 694, 71, 966 and 966A stop at the main terminal with the number 94 stopping on Auckland Drive. The nearest train stations are Marston Green or Water Orton station both located approximately 20 minutes away.
