RE A Level at Newman Catholic School
In Sixth Form, the department currently offers the Philosophy of Religion and Ethics course. This course is offered through OCR and allows students to gain a broad grasp of philosophical strands of thought and ethical theory. Topics include Natural Law, Kantian Ethics, Utilitarianism, Platonic and Aristotelian philosophy, Cosmological and Ontological arguments for the existence of God, Science and Religion, and the Problem of Evil.
In addition, Newman students follow the EdExcel Extended Project, which is worth UCAS points and consists of a taught programme and a research project which students choose themselves. This qualification is offered by many top schools, and allows students to develop vital time management, planning and research skills which will help prepare them for any future studies at university.
The course is 100% written examination and exams take place at the end of each academic year.
