A Level Product Design (Textiles) at Hasmonean High School

Course description

You will work with a number of different fibres and fabrics to produce your own fabric from a variety of techniques e.g. sublimation printing where you create your own designs on the computer and then transfer them to the fabric of your choice. A laser cutter can also be used in the production of your item.

You will decide on a problem you wish to investigate for your coursework topic where you will consider such points as socioeconomic, ethnic, moral, religious and environmental issues. We will visit a variety of exhibitions including a textile manufacturer. You will work independently and as part of a group to research your topics. The creation process will include modelling, pattern adaptation, making a toile to produce a prototype.

Entry requirements

GCSE Design and Technology at grade B. A willingness to work independently and a creative flair is also important.


You will have a theory paper for both AS and A2. You will need to fill in a record form showing where you monitor the evidence you have given in your coursework.

AS= Coursework 25% Theory paper 25%

A2= Coursework 25% Theory paper 25% Total AS + A2 = 100%
