Sport & Exercise Science - BTEC Level 3 at Bishop Milner Catholic College

Course description

For students who have an interest in sports coaching and wish to progress to employment in sport related industries such as sports psychology, fitness, sports therapy, teaching, event management and coaching.

Course content

What will I study during the course?

There are 3 mandatory units that require completion these are:

Unit 1: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology of Sport (Coursework)

The aim of this unit is to explore the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems and also to learn the fundamentals of the energy systems.

Unit 2: The Physiology of Fitness (Coursework)

This unit provides an opportunity for students to explore the body’s response to acute exercise and how the body adapts to long-term exercise participation.

Unit 3: Assessing Risk in Sport (Coursework)

The aim of this unit is to make the student explicitly aware of the vital nature of risk assessment and its management within the sports industry.A further 3 units are optional and will be decided upon commencement of the course. An example of these units are:

Fitness Training and Programming

Sports Development

Sports Nutrition

Entry requirements

5 A* - C GCSE Passes
