Business BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Basingstoke College of Technology

Course description

This course covers a wide range of business related areas. Business affects nearly every part of our daily lives and all business organisations demand well qualified, versatile and adaptable employees with high level skills and knowledge, plus sound business acumen.

This BTEC Diploma gives you the opportunity to develop skills, techniques and personal qualities essential for performance in working life and the business world. You learn by completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and included in the course are a number of visits to organisations such as Cadburys and the Bank of England.

The main areas studied include: Business activities, Finance, On-line business, Sales and customer service and Business start-ups. You will receive instruction, guidance and encouragement to practise and develop the skills necessary to achieve the award. The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

  • Customer Relations
  • Business Purposes
  • Investigating Financial Control
  • Online Business
  • Personal Selling
  • Business Communications.

There are timetabled sessions designed to enhance skills in English and Maths. Students will receive separate certificates on successful completion of the programme.

Students may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English, Maths and preferably Science.

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed through assignments, projects and case studies. Students will develop a responsible and co-operative approach to working on their own and in groups. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local businesses wherever possible.

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.

Future opportunities

This course is a recognised route onto an Extended Diploma course, students should aim for a merit or distinction grade to ensure progression.

Further information

The course offers appropriate work experience to complement the knowledge and skills you will learn at college. It includes a number of visits which may include the Bank of England, Ford Factory and Cadbury World, costing about £100.
